Biryani is a delicious and tasteful food. Most people in our country like spicy food, for instance Karahi, biryani, Bar BQ etc. all these are very popular because all these are very spicy and delicious. In our country, there are many different method of cooking different kinds of biryani. The difference in recipes are due to difference in locality e.g. Mumbai Biryani, Afghani Biryani, and Sindhi Biryani etc. The difference in the use of basics ingredients also varies the recipe. For example Vegetable Biryani, Hara Masala (green veggies) Biryani, Tikka Biryani, Kaccha Gosht (raw meat) Biryani and many others. Any family function or friend’s get-together is incomplete without a this dish. It is basically thought to be a dish which originated from Karachi & the Urdu-Speaking community of India & Pakistan, but it has now spread all over the country and one can find a version of Biryani in any city of Pakistan.



Rice 1 kg

Chicken 1 kg

Brown onion 3

Potatoes normal size 3

Tomato ½ kg

Lemon juice 6 tablespoons

Dry plum 1/2 cup

Plain Yogurt 2 cups

Ginger garlic past 2 tablespoons

Green chillies 5

Mint 1/2 bunch chopped

Cardamoms 4

Black paper 5 to 6

Clove 5

Milk 1/2 cup

Butter 1/2 cup

Red chilli –to taste

Pinch food colour 1 tablespoon

Coriander powder 1/2 tablespoons

Whole cumin 1/2 tablespoons

Procedure to cook

  • First of all wash chicken and soak them
  • Put yogurt on the chicken for marination
  • Put Ginger garlic paste, red chilli, green chilli, salt  on it
  • Put Lemon, mint, dry plum, coriander on it and leave for ½ hour
  • Take a pot put oil and onion in it , fry onion golden brown
  • Now put chicken in pot and cook it
  • After this cut potatoes in 4 pieces and fry
  • Chop the tomato and fry
  • Top the chicken with potatoes and tomatoes
  • On the other hand wash the rice and soak them
  •  Take a pot and filled that pot water for boiling rice add green chili, cardamom, black paper, mint and salt
  • One thing keep in mind rice do not cook more than 1/3

  • Take a big pot put in 2 to 3 tablespoons of oil now make a layer of rice in it,
  • Then a layer of chicken, add warm milk and pinch on the layer, repeat this process again and again

  • Add lemon juice on it , cover the pot tightly with its pot cap
  • Cook it a low flame 10 to 15 minutes
  • Now Mumbai biryani ready for serve, sever Mumbai biryani with yogurt dip and colourful salad.
